Human embryo and sperm
A human embryo, with some remaining sperm cells,
about five days after fertilisation. The nuclei of
both the sperm and cells of the embryo are stained
purple, the tails of the sperm are green and the
gap junctions, which form connections between the
cells are highlighted in blue. The embryo was
photographed through a confocal microscope, which
creates a very sharp fluorescent image.
